Career in Journalism
Rather began his journalism career as a reporter for the Associated Press in 1953. In 1963, he joined CBS News as a correspondent.
During his time at CBS, Rather covered some of the most important events in American history, including the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
In 1981, Rather became the anchor of the CBS Evening News, a position he held for 24 years.
